Continuing Education Units Awarded for Vinyl Siding Design Course

An online course available through AEC Daily now offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for a one-hour course on designing with vinyl siding. The American Institute of Architects, the American Institute of Building Design and the Construction Specifications Institute are among those who have approved the course for CEUs.

The continuing education course — A Guide to Designing with Today's Vinyl Siding provides an extensive overview of how to incorporate vinyl siding, architectural trim and accessories into a range of popular architectural styles. The program also includes a brief history of vinyl siding, types of vinyl siding available, and their numerous features and benefits.

The course is presented by Matthew Dobson, director, code & regulatory for the Vinyl Siding Institute. "Architects, builders, specifiers and other building professionals face many challenges with today's market and economic conditions," Dobson said. "This course is a vital tool that shows how vinyl siding can meet demands for versatile design, lasting beauty, durability, sustainability and value."

Professionals who score 80 percent or higher on the course's exam qualify to earn appropriate credits.

Since mid-September, nearly 100 professionals have passed the course. Among the participants who submitted a course evaluation, more than 96% rated it "good" or "excellent" on a variety of criteria. "The course was interesting and informative," one participant commented. "The house diagrams were especially helpful."

The course will be available online through 2010.
